A vibrant and layered Rhône blend showing notes of lavender, raspberry, subtle spice and gentle savoury elements.
Château de Saint Cosme, based in Gigondas, has been in the Barruol family for over five centuries. Louis Barruol, the fourteenth generation, took charge in 1992 and is now regarded as one of the Rhône’s most talented winemakers. The 2021 season was unusually cool and late across France; while considered lighter by today’s standards, it echoes the balance and refinement of earlier classic vintages.
The grapes grow on clay-rich hillsides with ancient alluvial soils, limestone marl and scattered stones, planted across steep, narrow terraces—some dating back to Gallo-Roman times. All vineyard work, from pruning to harvest, is done by hand. Winemaking follows long-standing family methods: the different varieties are co-fermented as whole clusters in thick-walled concrete tanks that naturally regulate temperature.
