Smederevka, Tikve
Region: Tikveš, North Macedonia
Grapes: 85% Smederevka, 15% Riesling
A pale lemon wine with aromas of tropical and stone fruits lifted by a bright citrus edge. The palate is crisp, well-balanced and refreshing, finishing clean and lively.
Tikveš Winery has been part of North Macedonia’s winemaking heritage since 1885. The region is a landscape of vineyards, lakes, mountains and rivers, with an ideal climate for quality fruit. At the estate in the Tikveš region, indigenous grapes such as Smederevka, Vranec and Kratošija are grown sustainably and turned into expressive, characterful wines in a modern, well-equipped cellar.
Smederevka, the key white variety of the area, thrives on hillside vineyards—around 80% planted on east and southeast-facing slopes. The vines are trained in double Guyot and rooted in well-drained clay soils rich in carbonates, which naturally push yields higher. To enhance concentration, green harvesting is used. Grapes are handpicked at peak ripeness and swiftly taken to the winery to preserve their freshness.
